A BRIEF HISTORY

Formation of SBI Bangalore Circle was neither a part of Re-organization of the bank nor for Economic considerations. It was the will of the People of Karnataka personified . An issue of the masses.

The growth of SBI was stunted before circle formation. Branch spread was uneven , Business potential was not identified . Benefit of Financial strength of SBI was not available to the State .

The Struggle for Formation of Bangalore Circle by “Employees committee for Formation of Karnataka Circle “ was a struggle of the people of Karnataka . The struggle was a saga in search for our own identity . 

The aspiration to form a separate circle was strong among the unions , Associations and State Kannada sanghas . 

State Banks’ Staff union actively participated in the campaign , created awareness amongst the general public to create a strong case for the establishment of the Local head office at Bangalore .

On 14thAugust 1983 thus the Bangalore circle came into Existence .

Bangalore circle is now four decades old. In retrospect the State Banks’ Staff union and State Banks’ Officer’s association played a vital role in achieving the tremendous challenge of a separate circle for our state .

Backed by thousands of employees who were in the front line fighting as loyal soldiers of the organization, thereafter donning the role of Public voice and creating the reality of a new circle their sacrifice is commendable and gives each of us a tremendous nostalgic satisfaction.

Today we stand as the number one bank in the eyes of the Public and business has grown strongly in the presence of a wide branch network in the state.
